There are many suitable vehicles in Australia that may be converted to accept wheelchair bound passengers and after 28 years in the public transport industry we have found Kia Carnivals to be the most suitable.
As a nature of its intended use there are no standard sizes for wheelchairs as they are generally custom made to suit the occupant.
With that in mind we find the Kia Carnival is best suited for our clients as it has the largest interior space in its class.
After the wheelchair conversion they can carry most wheelchairs (manual and powered), waterchairs and even mobility scooters fit! With that in mind they can also accommodateanother 4 able bodied passengers.
With an opening tailgate height of 1.5 meters it is the largest in its class and is the easiest to access for passengers. Its relatively compact size makes it more maneuverable in tight spaces than Hi Aces or similar vehicles and with an overall height of only 1.9 meters they can fit under many household carports which can be handy for loading/unloading in inclement weather.
Another important feature of the Kia is its reliability. To put it bluntly they are bulletproof! They very rarely require any work other than their scheduled servicing and like all of our vehicles they are updated regularly while they still have plenty of useful life left in them. Again we do this with an eye to reliability in keeping our fleet vehicles current.
